This part of the text says a lot about the characters involved. Gatsby had a chance to be joyful because he was anticipating seeing Daisy for years. I think Daisy was crying for many reasons one of them being that she felt guilty that Gatsby had waited for her while she married Tom. She might of been crying also because she was so excited to she him and excited to get back to where they were in their relationship before they broke up. In conclusion this was both a joyous and a painful meeting.
